Last
month, singer Bad Bunny announced that he would embark on a new world tour
entitled “DeBí TiRAR MáS FOTOS’ World Tour”, after selling out a residency in
Puerto Rico. The news to the Puerto Rican singer's fans was revealed on his
official Instagram account, in a short video presenting the places where the
tour will pass, such as: Europe; the Caribbean, South and North America; Asia
and Oceania.
While the singer's audience received the announcement with great anticipation, many noticed that shows in the United States had not been announced in the list of official tour dates. It is speculated that the current political climate in the United States may be the reason why concert dates were not included in thecountry.
The Puerto Rican singer has shown a sharp change in the locations where he has performed since his last tour in 2024. The “Most Wanted Tour” - which promoted the album “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana” - led to the singer performing 47 shows, 31 of which were in cities in the United States. In this way, the “Most Wanted Tour” became the 5th biggest Latin tour of all time, grossing US$211.4 million, in addition to attracting a paying audience of 753,000 people in its 47 concerts.
This change in Bad Bunny's touring schedule can be seen in early 2025. Also in the second half of this year, the singer will perform a 30-show residency in his homeland. Entitled "No Me Quiero Ir De Aquí" - a name in reference to the track "El Apagón" - from Bad Bunny's album "Un Verano Sin Ti" - which portrays the frequent power outages on the island of Puerto Rico, the residency will feature the first nine shows (July 11 to 27) exclusively for residents of the island of Puerto Rico, the concerts will take place throughout the weekends, from Friday to Sunday, until the final date set for August 24 - when the singer will then embark on the international tour of his latest album.
On his new tour, titled “DeBí TiRAR MáS FOTOS’ World Tour”, Bad Bunny has already confirmed 23 cities that will host shows in countries such as: Costa Rica; Colombia; Mexico; Peru; Chile; Argentina; Australia; Japan; Spain; Portugal; Germany; Netherlands; United Kingdom; France; Sweden; Poland; Italy; Brazil (February 20 and 21, 2026) and is scheduled to end in Belgium (July 22, 2026).
The Puerto Rican singer’s new international tour includes the promotion of his latest album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” - from January 2025. As previously discussed in analyses by Latino Observatory, the singer’s audiovisual project, launched this year, brings with it a tribute to local rhythms and a message against cultural erasure on the island of Puerto Rico, which currently belongs to the United States with the status of an overseas territory.
Bad Bunny's album is considered bold in political matters, especially in relation to the context of the US presidential elections that took place in 2024. During the US election campaign period, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe satirized the island of Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” during a campaign rally for then-Republican candidate Donald Trump in October last year. In contrast, Bad Bunny expressed support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and, in an interview with The New York Times in January of this year, the singer fired back at Tony Hinchcliffe's speech: “[...] It was supposed to be a political rally. I didn't know he was a comedian — he was in a suit, and I thought, 'Oh, he's a politician.' Then people said to me, 'No, he's a comedian.' It wasn't funny [...]”.
On his social media, the Puerto Rican singer provoked his audience by revealing that he wants to tour places he has never visited - such as Brazil - and other places he has not visited for a long time, such as the United Kingdom. Bad Bunny not only ignores the United States on his new tour as a way of boycotting the current American scene, as was widely interpreted by the singer's audience and critics, marking a strong position from the artist in the face of government tensions in the country. The decision to leave out the largest consumer market for audiovisual products is also linked to the urgent need to ensure the integrity of Latin communities in the United States, which could face great exposure if they are crowded together at the Puerto Rican singer'sshows.
Throughout the beginning of June, the escalation of tensions between the US federal government and the state government of California can be observed. Protests in the city of Los Angeles began in response to operations by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) against unauthorized immigrants in the city. In total, more than 100 arrests of immigrants were carried out throughout the first and second week of June by federal agents, with arrests recorded in numerous locations - including the parking lot of a “Home Depot”, a famous American construction material store. Such disorder resulted in the call-up of at least 300 soldiers from the United States National Guard in the state of California, causing a disagreement between the central government and the state government. For Gavin Newsom - governor of the state of California - the sending of troops can be understood as “inflammatory”, causing more animosity than necessary between protesters and state forces.
Bad Bunny’s decision to boycott the United States during the “DeBí TiRAR MáS FOTOS” World Tour will certainly not go unnoticed by the general public, the specialized media and even political circles. The Puerto Rican singer and his team’s awareness of current US security issues not only prevents any interference by US forces during the concerts – as major hubs for the Latin community to gather and appreciate – but also prevents any possible damage to Bad Bunny’s image related to such interference in his shows. Although the singer has not given any indication that the entire list of official dates for his tour has been announced, by ignoring the largest music market in the world to date, Bad Bunny is creating an unusual situation, to say the least. As the Latin American artist with the second highest-grossing world tour of all time with the “World’s Hottest Tour” - garnering promotion for his album “Un Verano Sin Ti” with 43 shows in 2022 - Bad Bunny could make history if he surpasses these numbers with his current international tour, or even if he garners numbers similar to those of his previous tours, even more so if the singer and his team keep the United States out of the “DeBí TiRAR MáS FOTOS’ World Tour”.
